Post Modern Art
Forming in the middle of the 20th century, Postmodern art was said to burst onto the artistic scene sometime between the 1960s and 1970s. This movement replaced Modernism as the primary artistic style at the time, and was viewed as a form of art with no standard guidelines that dictated the practice. Postmodern art stretched over two decades, coming to an end in around the 1990s when other artistic styles that had borrowed characteristics from Postmodernism began to develop.
Existing as a body of art that incorporated different movements, Postmodern art borrowed aspects from a variety of artistic practices when creating artworks. The Postmodernism era described a form of art in which artists were able to truly express what they thought and felt, with pieces from this period typically characterized by complete freedom from politics and other societal influences.
Spanish Architect Ricardo Bofill east of Paris 1983
The structure as well as its landscaping bring about a creative design. I like how the architect has incorporated the structures to a likeness and then giving the center piece its own ability to stand apart from the rest.
Following Marilyn Monroe’s death in August 1962, Warhol created this masterpiece which consists of 50 images of Marilyn using the same publicity photograph from the film titled Niagara.
Andy Warhol
Andy Warhol was known to have a fetish for shoes and feet. This was probably the inspiration behind the shoe series.
His advert for women’s footwear in the 1950’s was outstanding and recognized. It is a collection of different shoe paintings by Andy Warhol.
I love Andy Warhol, his ability to take something so simple as a shoe and turn it into art just by entertaining his imagination on canvas.
Patrick Nagel
Patrick Nagel was an American artist and illustrator. He created popular illustrations on board, paper, and canvas, most of which emphasize the female form in a distinctive style, descended from Art Deco and Pop art.
I have always been fascinated with Patrick Nagel, He was brilliant in my opinion and his artwork could be found throughout the 80s in all different arenas of display. Hair salons bars and home decor were just some of the places you would have found some of his work. The band Duran Duran produced an album using this artist work for their album cover.
1980s Pop Art. Doug might describe this period as the ‘Bitty years’. Between divorces and the loss of a parent. A general economic recovery resulted in a lot of get-rich quick kids with a disposable income and some with a snobbish desire to own some “real” art.
This post-Athena retail generation fueled an inflation of some dubious artworks for those who could afford it, and the growth of pop-up galleries run by wannabe artists often exploited the situation while the paint was still wet.

Hello,
ReplyDeleteI also spoke on post-modern art. I also picked a Marilyn Monroe piece. Marilyn Monroe during this time was a huge icon and was an amazing movie star. Everyone knew of Marilyn Monroe. The colors in this image are very vibrant and hip. I love the two images by Patrick Nagel. Very comic-like, I love the colors used and the sharp lines. Post-modern art was a big step away from the years ago.
In your last image the background is vibrant and gives the illusion of a late night at a party.
